JOB SUMMARY:

As the production supervisor you will be responsible for creating an engaging environment that encourages growth and development from all colleagues on the shift.  You will lead a team of hourly employees to work towards meeting both production and quality targets.  You will also be a key contributor to the success of the departments by assisting with and leading training programs for the shift to ensure our colleagues have all the skills required to do their job safely and effectively. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads all team members based on our shared core principles of Safety, Excellence, and Respect.
  • Understands, measures, and manages production department to meet and exceed key performance indicators that correspond with Safety, Production, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. 
  • Supervises personnel producing semi-finished and finished goods using the necessary machines and equipment to meet anticipated cost and quality levels in line with production schedules and with a minimum of waste lost. 
  • Responsible for efficient use of labor hours, material and machines. 
  • Operates within the current controllable expenses budget and is also expected to improve budgeted performance for labor (direct and indirect), materials, supplies, and maintenance of production facilities. 
  • Responsible for carrying out production schedules where furnished and/or prepares own production schedule in collaboration with materials. 
  • Plans and schedules personnel assignments; coordinates flow of work between work centers and shifts; and follows up to ensure assignment and schedules are carried out. 
  • Assist with planning functions to include: releasing pickers, discrete jobs, backlog reports, min/max items, and cycle counts. 
  • Indoctrinates personnel in the Garlock quality control so that goods produced will be within the required quality level.  Instills a pride of performance within each employee and assumes responsibility for acceptable quality products. 
  • Enforces plant safety rules.  Instructs personnel in safe working habits.  Responsible to investigate any accidents and implement any corrective actions necessary to prevent reoccurrence.  Responsible for alerting supervisor to unsafe practice or conditions if beyond their control.  Conducts regular safety meeting, inspections and documents. 
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving 5S in the area.  Coaches and mentors operators to develop habits to maintain areas in 5S conditions and continuously improve on these metrics. 
  • Responsible for communicating information on problems, projects, schedules, etc., to personnel and supervisor, and especially to supervisory personnel on subsequent shifts. 
  • Furnishes information as required for job descriptions, and classification of new and changed jobs. 
  • Directs the proper care of all equipment, facilities, and machines in unit.  Initiates requests for maintenance service and follows through.  Reports abnormal mechanical conditions. 
  • Handles employee grievances and problems as they arise.  Informs supervisor when unable to reconcile with employee.  Issues discipline when necessary. 
  • Conducts on-the-job training of new employees and retraining of other employees as necessary.  Evaluates employee performance; and recommends merit increases. 
  • Supervises the taking of prescribed physical inventories. 
  • Collaborates with supervisor in preparation of controllable expense budget. 
  • Supervises and directs transportation and inter-plant storage of all hazardous waste in accordance with EPA regulations. 
  • Maintains accurate records of departmental activities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College graduate or commensurate work history.
  • Must be able to read measuring instruments to do quality audit of products, etc., according to company policies and procedures.   
  • Good interpersonal skills.   
  • Must be able to establish work schedules and make decisions with little or no direct supervision.   
  • 2 - 4 years supervisory experience in manufacturing. 
  • Working experience using an ERP system (Oracle ERP system a plus). 
  • Working knowledge using the Microsoft Suite of software (specifically Outlook and Excel).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Office and Manufacturing Floor Position: Ability to perform sedentary work, spending extended periods of time working with a computer. Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Clarity of vision to see near and mid-range.   Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
