The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for the production of the company’s products. He/she is also the technical interface within the engineering department coordinating with the manufacturing and commercial groups. Will work closely with R&D to ensure that product designs and upgrades are transferrable to the manufacturing process. In addition, this position will assist the operations group with establishing systemic solutions and processes to improve process yields, product quality, engineering efficiencies, and process consistencies.
- Work closely with other engineers and/or process owners to develop, design, test, and manufacture equipment/processes with an eye toward increasing production and maintaining low costs.
- Proactively manage program risk through risk identification and mitigation processes.
- Oversight and documentation of equipment usage and performance. May include hands-on work on preventative maintenance, repairs and improvements to coating machinery.
- Drive Lean process improvement initiatives and assist with training other engineering personnel i.e. technicians, operators.
- Support business unit goals and objectives, quality initiatives, continuous improvement initiatives, and company policies and procedures Maintain a safe work environment for self and other co-workers. Follow all safety rules and procedures as instructed by the company’s safety program and initiatives.
- Manage multiple projects in parallel, with varying scope and timeline.
- Convey ideas and troubleshoot problems.
- Work collaboratively with supervisor and other engineering personnel in order tomeet customer specifications, expectations, and on time delivery.
- Additional duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, or other science discipline with 2 or more years’ experience.
- Above average knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Strong foundation of interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written as well as listening. Ability to work well under pressure.
- Creative and flexible, yet a disciplined approach to process and engineering design.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
- Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite (Word; Excel).
- Strong work ethic displaying consistent dependability, reliability, and initiative.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Hands on experience with thin film deposition equipment, as well as optical, chemical, and/or mechanical processes.
- Familiarity with CNC and manual machining operations.
- Manufacturing process development.
- Experience in volume manufacturing of optical – mechanical assemblies.
- Proven track record with Design for Manufacturability or Design of Experiment (DOE).
- Transferring new processes from development to manufacturing.
- Excellent fundamental of engineering concepts (tolerance analysis), statistical process control, gauge R&R sampling, and problem-solving techniques.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work within a manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
- Clarity of vision to see near and mid-range.
- While performing duties of this job, this role will regularly be required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms.
- Temperature is moderate within work environment.
- The noise level in the manufacturing environment is moderate, but occasionally can be loud.
