Cost Accountant

JOB SUMMARY:

The Staff accountant is responsible for performing a broad range of complex and difficult accounting assignments with responsibility for recommending and implementing changes in accounting methods and procedures.  Under supervision of the Finance Manager, carries out assignments in GL accounting, cost accounting, and inventory functions as assigned.  May instruct other employees engaged in accounting or related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Comply with the company 5S standards and safety regulations.
• Responsible for assisting with all elements of the financial close process to ensure a timely close.
• Prepare and enter journal entries consistent with GAAP requirements
• Perform monthly reconciliations of Inventory including E&O, Plant Property and Equipment and Construction in Process, along with other accounts as assigned.
• Assists with the calculation of labor, overhead and equipment rates for the annual standard cost revaluation. Also assists with performing the tasks and processes necessary to complete the annual standard cost revaluation.
• Prepare and follow monthly close documentation including but not limited to checklists
• Analyzes actual costs versus standard costs and the impact on inventory, material, labor and burden manufacturing variances generated.
• Lead various projects as assigned and continuously find ways to improve departmental quality through creating efficiencies, streamlining repetitive processes and utilizing technology
• Review and analyze monthly financial reports by product / product family , and work  Cross Functional Team communication, to identify causes of cost variances between budget targets & actuals
• Develop ad-hoc pricing and cost reports and financial models for management as requested
• Facilitate regular cross-functional reviews of product costs and profitability, and coordinate with the sales, purchasing, product management, production engineering, and operations teams to ensure optimal pricing & profitability throughout product life cycles
• Analyze changes in product design, materials and manufacturing methods, to determine the impact on product costs and period profitability
• Must establish and maintain work relationships with all levels through a high degree of professionalism and excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
• Strong participation & support of Agile teams & related company departments (logistics, production, engineering, sales, procurement and information technology)
• Follow relevant policies and procedures so that work is carried out in controlled manner.
• Work additional task as assigned

• Excellent Computer Skills to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google suite experience preferred.
• Open minded, willingness to accept/drive change and desire to become a leader.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in GL accounting, public accounting, or related field.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• CPA or active CPA candidate.
• Oracle experience a plus or other ERP systems
• Fixed asset experience is a plus
• Working knowledge of GAAP
