Job Summary & Job Duties

Plan, organize and run machines efficiently to maximize material utilization for numerical control machines, Laser and waterjet.


• Formulate efficient operational programs that maximize machine utilization and product quality to assure customer expectations are met.
• Complete general preventive maintenance on equipment
• Be responsive to the short-term needs of the shop to keep the machines running efficiently.
• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Measures, marks, and scribes' dimensions and references points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machine.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, and feed.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
• Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
• Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
• Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
• Reads production paperwork to determine specified requirements to manufacture.
• Determine if material supplied meets production requirements.
• Removes cut pieces from sheet and examines for defects associated with laser cutting including edge quality and surface nonconformities including scratches.
• Fills out production paperwork and timekeeping records. In-Process and Final Audit Report.
• Correctly fill out tags associated with production to identify parts produced. (Identification and Traceability)
• Is required to read blueprints to review characteristics that need to be monitored. If assistance is required, then the operator is to get help from the Production Cell Leader or QA.
• Monitors the calibration of the equipment they use within their department.
• Has the ability to check parts utilizing calipers, micrometers, and height gages.
• Ability to measure parts effectively to guarantee conformity to print specifications.
• Ability to perform basic maintenance on the laser including gas changes, nozzle changes and the nozzle centering operation.
• Perform other work-related task as required as assigned
• Comply with all Company and HSE procedures and policies
• Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area in compliance with facility housekeeping policies. (6S Standards).
• Wears required safety equipment and follows the equipment safe operation procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Competencies & Minimum Qualifications
• Technical, High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge and experience with programming, setup, and operation of Waterjet cutting system.
• Knowledge and experience programming, setup, and operation of Laser cutting system.
• Knowledge and experience in Sheetmetal
• Knowledge and experience using Auto CAD Software
• Read and interpret Blueprints / drawings
• Read, write, speak, and understand English, and be able to communicate with other employees.
• Ability to use basic measuring devices such as micrometers and calipers.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Computer literate
• Ability to drive a forklift
• Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualification
Experience with CN Haas machines is preferred
Experience with Trumpf TRUE Laser is preferred
Familiar with Mastercam Software used on waterjet is a plus
Familiar with Geometric Dimensional &Tolerance is a plus
Experience with Metallic Gaskets is a plus
